The Burn Slow Kitchen Log
📖 Entry #1: Apple Smoked Turkey Stir-Fry
Date: July 27, 2025
Location: Home base, Tucson, AZ
Prepared by: Rico
Witnesses: Two loyal kitchen recon agents (see below)
🍽️ Ingredients:
Apple smoked turkey breast (pan-seared)
Olive oil (medium heat)
Garlic sea salt (seasoned with intention)
White rice (fluffy and grounding)
Stir-fry veggies (carrots, snap peas, broccoli, baby corn, etc.)
🔥 Cooking Method:
Turkey breast cooked in olive oil on medium heat for 15 minutes (5 minutes each side, butterflied the breast, and cooked exposed raw meat for an additional 5 minutes).
Rested 5 minutes before slicing (critical move).
Mixed with stir-fry vegetables and rice.
Finished with garlic sea salt to bring the elements into harmony.
🎧 Vibe: Midday stillness. Dogs holding the perimeter. Old soul music on low, maybe some Delfonics or Al Green in the air. A solo mission but deeply satisfying. No witnesses—except the real ones.
🧠 Notes to Self:
Try jasmine or wild rice next time for variety.
Add chili flakes or ginger if you’re chasing a sharper edge.
A squeeze of citrus right before plating could brighten it all.
🐾 Kitchen Crew
1. The Porch Sentinel Laid out on the striped mat, eyes locked like a seasoned lookout. Patient, quiet, maybe a touch of judgment—but always love underneath. Could be a reincarnated kitchen god, waiting for a scrap of smoked turkey.
2. The Floor General Inside, front paw crossed, regal posture. Leans up against the chipped red step like he’s been through some things—like he understands what it means to burn slow. He doesn’t beg. He just knows.
Closing Reflection: Cooking like this is more than survival. It’s a reclaiming. A ritual. A rhythm. It says: I’m here. I’m hungry. And I’m worth the good stuff.
